Hi I am a recent second time mom (two boys, 12-08 & 10-07) my newborn has been in the hospital for eight days with RSV. Until another little girl at his daycare had it, I didn't even know what RSV was. I took Tucker to the dr last wednesday for a cough. He had no fever, no ear infection. The dr said, his cough sounded tight, but he couldn't say that he had RSV. He basically told me I had to wait, either he would get better or worse. Less than twenty-four hours later we were rushing him to children's mercy, grey and unresponsive. He hadn't held anything down for eighteen hours and was dehydrated. Now we are hopefully (fingers crossed) halfway through this terrifying ordeal. He has been completely dependent on oxygen since we got here and he is now eating through a feeding tube, when his coughing fits don't make him throw up. I was just wondering if there were any other moms going through this and if anyone had any advice.

My 15 month old lil girl was diagnosed with it about 3 weeks ago. She was running a temp and being lifeless. So after about a week she started feeling better and then all of a sudden it has gotten worse again. She caughs so bad that she vomits. The doctor says the caughing may last up to 6 months. She can't take much more of this.

We had the same problem. My daughter who was 4 weeks old at the time was coughing. It was a bad cough so I took her to the peds office. They told us that she didn't have any ear infection and sent us home saying the same thing, it will either get worse or better. That was on a Tuesday, on Sunday she had a temp of 96.3. She was lifeless as well. We got her to the hospital and her nose and lips were blue. She had a seizure when we took her back into the ER. She was intibated and had the tube down her throat until Wednesday. They then took the tube out of her throat and put oxygen in her nose. She was able to drink a bottle then too. She was moved from the PICU to the floor that day. They weaned her off the oxygen on Friday and we came home yesterday (Saturday). This is the scariest thing ever. I knew of RSV but didn't know it could be so serious. We are taking greater precautions for the upcoming RSV season!!
