So, we just started to TTC we will know next week if we were successful or not. But we have already started to think up some names. We will be both the first to give both sides a grandchild, so we are feeling alot of pressure from both sets of parents. The names we like for a Boy: Aksel or August, with the middle name John for my DH's godfather who has pasted away. The future grandparents say these names are too out there; Aksel sounds too much like A**hole and August will be called OggieDoggie. Girls names we like Lina( pronounced "lean a") or Loralie, with the middle name Millie for my great-grandmother who I was very close too. Again they say the names are too out there and our kid is gonna get beat up or picked on. They seem to think that our future child needs a plain name because there is a very good chance we will get a redhead. I love redhead's I married one, my little brother is one, both my sister-inlaws are and they are both BEAUTIFUL! The parents think that putting a unquie name with a redheaded kid is asking for trouble....is it?

I love red hair too!! My sister had gorgeous(sp?) red hair!!! I like Lina.. I actually know 2 people named that..so that's actually not too weird!! Oh & I love Loralie too..it is getting pretty popular too!! Now as for Aksel..I like it (I like weird names myself) , but I do see how it is pretty close to A**hole(lol) so I would probably stay away from that!! Last , but not least August is an all-girl name to me..but that is me!!! We are TTC also ..w/o success ,but here is a list of our names as of right now~~ Girl~ Ava, Abby, Addy, Elizabeth,Isabella, Emma, Chloe..etc~ Boys~ Ethan, Noah , Tennyson, Jackson, Elijah, & Miles!!
**Remember it is your baby so you name it what YOU want!!! Not everyone is going to love the name & they get the chance w/ their kids so do what YOU want & don't worry.. once that sweet little baby is here they won't even care!!!**

Happy thoughts your way for TTC! My Dh comes from a very German family, his dad is actually from Germany and my DH is the fisrt to be born in the US. So the names we want leaned towards that side. His mother is not from Germany and that is where we are getting problems on that side, my mom is the other one. BTW i love Ava, think it's a very pretty name and Tennyson is so cute too! I told the grandparents that we're gonna draw names out of a hat if this keeps up and then just pick out the one i folded that has the names that I want. Plus I tell them is we pick the boys name Aksel or August and have their middle name John, why can't they go with A.J. My older brother'd name was Jesse and he got teased that it was a girls name so he went with J.T.(middle name Todd), that solved that problem. I think people forget that and one point or another your child will get picked on by someone and it doesn't even have to be about their name. I got picked on cuz i was short till 6th grade and that was just by one mean little girl that didn't like anyone. It's not like I'm naming the kid Tullah Does the Hullah from Haiwii (real name of a kid who asked the courts to change it)!

Awww..Happy thoughts your way too!!! How long have you been TTC(if you don't mind me asking??) We have been for exactly a year now!! My family is German too, but a little further down the line.lol. That is so cool though!!HAHA that's a good idea about drawing the name & sneaking yours in. I totally agree kids will get made fun of for anything. My coach always cracked on me for my last name..Ponder...lol.. So no matter what it will happen!!! lol!!I really like Ava too, but obviously no definites yet. Oh & Tennyson is actually his mom's parent's last name, but we think it is a cute middle or possibly first name!!! We are def. going to be using family name's for middle name's so their first name is going to be what we like!!!

We'ev been trying for just 2 months now. I've always had a very irregular cycle, doc.'s weren't even sure I was ever gonna have one when I was a teen and then Hello Mother Nature! We went to the doc. to make sure everything was ok to try and yep it is! The whole trying to figure when your ovulating isn't working for us, or those stupid test strips! They make me mad cuz thet cost soo much. So now we just try everyother day till I get to that time of the month and then we wait and see. My DH says we are gonna do the hat thing once I'm at the hospital to deliver and then when no one is looking he's gonna toss out all the other names and just put dozens in of the names we want! So it will look like we are picking! Soo sneaky! The other thing I'm looking at is what the kids initals will spell. Unfournately for our best friends didn't think of that, Brie Janelle Harder...B.J. Harder. We didn't even notice until 2 weeks later when my little brother asked them why they named their kid BJ....LOL But they love her just the same.

lol!!! I swear in high school there was a girl named BJ & her last name was HEAD..That's right BJ HEAD.lol. A big DUHHH to her parents.lol. I think about the intials too!! My mom's maden intials were DA haha!!! Bless her heart we still joke w/ her about it!! My fiancee's intials are MAP!!! lol!!!
I totally agree about the every-other-day idea!! My cycles are crazy & no where near consistant so I am going to do that & try to test kits b/c my GYNO reccomended them last week & after a year we are trying anything now!! So I am fixing to leave work now, but feel free to join us on the TTC thread below this one!!! There are about 6-7 of us on there!! Most of who have been trying about the same amount of time you have!!! Good Luck & come join us..it is really nice to have people to talk to about it b/c most of us aren't telling anyone we are TTC , plus it is just nice to know we aren't alone!!!! BABY DUST your way!!!:)

My hubby and I are keeping all our name choices a secret so we won't be getting that... We also want an unusual name, but know if we spring it on family AFTER the baby's born, they'll just have to accept it and move on. At that point, it's too late for their opinion (solicited or unsolicted) :)

I'm a redhead and I got teased constantly for it in school. I think thats going to happen no matter what. For a girl I would go with Loralie its very pretty and less popular but still a conventional name. I think having red hair is even harder for guys (my brother's a redhead too). I would go with a more normal name for a boy. By the way being a redhead is way worth it once you get out of middle school even taking in to account that you are allergic to everything and can't ever go out in to the sun. Kids teasing is bad but actually its the adults that I really remember from when I was a kid. The old ladies would come up and say “Oh what pretty red hair where did you get it?” Really how did they expect a 6 year old to answer that? Did they want a lesson in genetics? Or for me to say these aren't my real parents they died in a fiery plan crash? (Neither of my parents has red hair so I often did end up reciting what I knew about the genetics of red hair) It might not be so bad if your husband has red hair they might not ask. Just some fun things to look forward to!

Yes, I agree that he/she will be made fun of. Most uncommon names do get made fun of along with names spelled differently, rhyming with anything gruesome or weird, or anything that is old or traditional along with anything that is new and original. Kids are cruel.
First of all, I would say at the least to spell the names correctly. Your boy's name sounds like a car axel, an ax, or a**hole. There isn't anything appealing or "cool" about it. It just doesn't go well as a name. I have the same opinions on names such as Brick or Steele.
Do you mean Lorelei? And was her name Millie, or is that an abbreviation?
August is okay, although is the shortened form of Augustus. If you like this name, be prepared for either using the nickname Gus or hearing it in a "making fun of" way.

I wanted to name my little girl Katlynn Olivia. But with our last name her initails would have been KOC.... lol
Do you think that she would have been teased in school for that?

Knowing how kids are, yes, I am sure that she would have been jlc85! It's sad but true. My sister's initials before she wed was ANL....Everyone called her anal in HS.

Aksel and Loralie are the German spellings of those names. My husbands father and grandparents are from Germany and still have most of his family over there. We are not trying to spell them wrong. Me and the Hubs have decied if it's a boy it will be Aksel John- he can go AJ for short, and if it's a girl it will be Lina-greman for music or Loralie Erin; her intials will be LEE, which is my Hubs middle name. We aren't gonna tell the grandparents what the names are until they are holding that baby in their arms at the hospital and the ink is dry on the birth certificate.
PS. Millie was my greatgrandmothers full first name and back in the day unique names were alot more common.

i think August is a beautiful name, we were originally thinking of that for our son but went with Judah (Hey Jude!). and for a little redheaded boy i think it's perfect, just think of the colors of Autumn (which was another name we thought of) the reds, golds, and browns.
and if he ever gets upset you can always pop in that movie August Rush it was so cute!
i got a lot of grief for wanting to name my child (had he turned out a girl) Alunaria which is a name i made up meaning moon song in elvish. my parents kept saying she would be called looney luna, but i didn't care it's a scientific fact that most babies that grow up with unique names become unique people and usually aren't susceptible to peer pressure.
ps: Ava and Loralie are beautiful without question.

I'm a redhead and 3 of my 4 kids are too. All kids get teased at some point in life. Over hair, height, weight, athletic abbilty, etc. Tell the grandparents that YOU will name YOUR kids. And that you will concider their suggestions IF YOU get to choose what the children will call the grandparents.

Lorelei is a beautiful name! I love it and it will be especially lovely on a red head! I am about to have a girl, but our boys names were either Jackson or Cooper for a first name and Rhett (as in Rhett Butler) for a middle name. Unique names are in right now! As are the old fashioned ones.
