My son is 16 mo. old has his meals in a high chair, when should I start putting him a booster chair at the table? I have looked at some and none of them really impress me, any suggestions?

I don't think there is a set point to move them to a booster. You kinda just have to play it by ear. My DD started showing signs that she wanted out of the high chair around 18 mos so I moved her to a booster. Her signs included throwing fits when I put her in the highchair, throwing her food which caused me to end the meal and then she would want to eat food from my plate right after I took her out of the high chair. And she only lasted in the booster chair for about 1.5 months - she decided she was ready to kneel in a grown up chair all by herself. They sure are independent little things!

You aren't doing anything wrong by prolonging his high chair use. I would suggest you let him stay in the high chair for as long as he is willing to take his meals in one!! I was all antsy to get my DD out of the high chair and into a booster, and once we did it there was no going back, even though I quickly found that I wanted to!

I bought a cheap adjustable booster from Target - a Fisher Price - that worked pretty good. It folded up nicely for travel, so it became the travel high chair when she stayed with Nana on weekends. It adjusted higher or lower for height adjustment, and the removeable tray adjusted in and out as well.

If he's eating well in his highchair still, I don't think there is much of a rush. I would think the main reason for a booster chair is to have the child eat with the family at the table. Is he really on the same schedule as you? We're waiting until they can wait until dinner time to eat at night, instead of right after naps. I would wait, get the most out of the money you spent on the highchair.

We've had our twins in a booster/feeding chair from the beginning. Having twins, we thought about it and didn't want to buy two high chairs and then another two booster chairs down the road, so we bought two of those combination plastic ones with the the three point belt and snap on trays (Fisher Price Healthy Care Booster). You just strap it to a normal chair. As soon as the boys could mostly sit, we fed them in those chairs. Then just after they turned 1 and were mostly on finger foods, we just put the trays into storage and just let the boys eat at the table, regardless of whether we were all eating together or not. Anyway, I think it's really your preference. Your baby could eat just as well from his tray as at the table, though he might like sitting with everyone once in awhile instead of being separated. In my case, it was much easier for me to try and eat meals at the same time as my kids when they were both right in front of me and just across the table. If they needed help I could easily reach across to them in between taking my own bites.

You took the words out of my mouth ra11en.
This is the booster we picked up. Got it from Wal-mart for $20.00 (on sale yeah! originally it's $25) The only difference with ours is the colors are different (white tray and cover, green back and blue seat)

Personally, My 2 yr old NEVER sat in a high chair. we had one but she never used it. We used (and still use) the booster seat (pic posted by twiceblessed). It works great and lasts through alot.
