Don't miss the beautiful essay by Heather Clay in the February issues of Parenting Early Years and Parenting School Years:

Read Objects of Affection (http://www.parenting.com/article/Mom/Relationships/Objects-of-Affection).

When her daughter loses her lovey, simply named Green Pillow, Heather realizes how much she misses it too.

Reply to this message and tell us all about your child's "best friend" toy! And what about you? What was your lovey as a child?

My kids are SUPER attached to their loveys. My oldest's lovey is a clothe diaper/spit clothe, he has about 30 of them and always has to have 1 with im. My youngest's lovey is a Dallas Cowboys T-shirt that I used to wear. He drags it through the snow, sleeps with it, wraps his stuffed animals in it. He always has it with him and I have to steal it when he's not looking just to wash it.

My oldest son's lovey was his stuffed Winnie the Pooh doll. I can sympathize with Heather's story about losing Green Pillow because we once lost Pooh Bear and my son was inconsolable. I had to make up an elaborate story about how Pooh went on vacation to visit his family and all the adventures he had while he was gone. Meanwhile, I was frantically phoning the hotel we had recently stayed in where I was pretty sure we had left Pooh Bear when we checked out. We did find him and the hotel mailed him home, whereupon I told my son he finally came back from vacation! Needless to say, I always double and triple check hotel rooms now before we check out!
