Hi! I'm an editor at Parenting, and I want to know: What's the weirdest USEFUL thing in your diaper bag right now? (For instance: When my kids were in diapers, I had an old, dead cell phone in there--it was the best way to keep my toddlers' hands occupied during a diaper change.) Thanks!

Weirdest thing to find in a diaper bag that's extremely helpful and useful for me is probably a change of MY clothes. My son has terrible acid reflux and I get spit up on ALOT so I always keep an extra shirt in there when I'm out in public and don't feel like offending people by the smell of my sons vomit on my clothes.

It actually sounds weird however I carried condoms - I had alot of friends with babies and I noticed how rude some people could be out in public. Babies are not perfect and sometimes throw a fit and unfortunately disturb others. You can certainly pick out the Non-parents! Instead of the simply "what are you looking at" phrase I would just simply walk up to their table or cart and say "here, make sure you don't have this happen to you since you don't seem like you could handle it" or something on that line - it really worked. They wer so embarrased that it took the focus off me onto them! I got an applause once from a restaurant from "other parents" because I quietly approached the rude guests. I feel like you cannot lets some people be rude - they need to be told that they their behavior is rude and unacceptable.

I'm not sure that its the weirdest but it is definetly the most useful. We buy the kirkland baby wipes and they come in a package that makes that crinkly noise just like some of those baby toys. Anyway my 7 month old loves it. Everytime I change her diaper she likes to squeeze it to make noises. Also just the fact that you can always wash sticky hands or faces or pretty much anything you need to.

I have an extra toothbrush, travel toothpaste and travel mouthwash in the bag. I keep it there in case for some odd reason I run out of the house without brushing my teeth, or I eat something that leaves a prominent after taste or odor (garlic, cheetos etc)

mooresnuthouse! I find this a coincidence. I have done the same thing. I always find people staring at me in Wal-Mart, Target, just about any store. And its in-evitable, EVERYTIME I go. So my first stop is the condom aisle. I put about 3 boxes in my cart and throw them in the persons cart who wants to gok at me and say rude comments. BUt one of the weirdest things I keep in my diaper bag would be breast-pads. I no longer breastfeed, however, they are perfect for cleaning up those little messes. I have had breastfeeding women look at me funny though when I pull one out and clean up a little mess my child has made. They just seem floored that I would just flash those things in public.

The condoms are hilarious. I wish I would have thought of that. As a first time mom, I try to keep the essentials. I know with having an 18 month old, an extra snack is always an essential.

I have one of those key chain bag holders. You know the ones that hold the plastic bags for disposal of dirty diapers. However mine is empty. I haven't bought refills for it in a while, but the thing does wonders to entertain my 15mo old in the store, restraunt, car. If we have gone through all the toys and other distractions, I pull it out and he is entertained until we are ready to leave. It makes a great chewy for teething(with parental supervision) a drum stick for beating on tables and carts and is fun to drop on the floor over and over for mommy and daddy to pick up.

Well, I can't say I have anything weird in my bag now but over the summer I brought my daughter with me to a friend's baby shower. We were running a bit late and my daughter was fascinated by our living room t.v. remote so I decided to take it along for the ride so she'd cooperate with me. Somehow it ended up in the giftbag and it was the 1st thing the mother-2-be pulled out in front of about 25 guests, everyone was laughing! All the other moms kind of guessed why our remote ended up at the party. Luckily we got it back or else my hubby would've had a fit!

That condom one is great!!!! HA!!! The odd stuff I keep in my son's bag is for myself. I keep a make up bag in there with tampons, chapstick, ponytail holders, and tissues. I don't bother carrying a purse either so my wallet ends up in his bag as well :)

the condoms in the cart thing is great i do somewhat the same thing. my 14mth old throws a fit and a half sometimes for no reason what so ever and you know everyone looks and thinks omg cant she control her child ( obvious either non parents or long ago parents) but i got to the hemeroid isle or the vagisl isle (for the guys) and put that stuff in carts. its funnier if you scratch the barcode a little so they have to do a price check yell over the intercome... but i dont keep anything really wierd in the diaper bag i dont think.

Weirdest thing (s) i keep in my diaper bag is my travel everything! Travel clorox wipes, travel diaper rash spray, travel lysol pray, tide pen. I get kinda weired out wen i am in public and my daughter goes to touch things so everything has to be sprayed down and wiped off first.
