Ok. I am new at being a stay at home mom so I have starting baking with my 2 yr old daughter alot. BUT I can not find a sugar cookie recipe that doesn't taste bland or like flour. The recipe I baked today called for 3 cups flour and 1 cup sugar but after using flour to roll the dough out it just tasted bland and alot like flour. Any suggestions??

Hello!
When you roll out your sugar cookie dough use powdered sugar on the counter in place of flour.
When you use flour the dough obviously picks it up and as you knead and roll it out more glueten is formed giving your cookies that flour taste!
But when you use powdered sugar it sweetens the dough a little more sometimes over poweing that flour taste and makes them softer! Also keep your dough cold!

I just made sugar cookies today (don't mean to bring this back up), but I have a pretty good recipe that I use all the time.
Cream 1 cup of butter & 1-1/2 cups of POWEDERED sugar. Add in 1 teaspoon of almond extract (you could use any flavor) and 1 egg. Beat well. Slowly add the following dry ingredients: 2 -1/2 cups flour, 1 teaspoon baking soda, 1 teaspoon cream of tartar, and 1/4 teaspoon salt. Mix very well. Chill AT LEAST 2 hours, over night is better. Roll dough, cut into shapes, and bake at 350 for 8 - 10 minutes.
Mine don't taste like flour they have a nice almond flavor.:)

I have a recipe from a Gramma I know, we make it every Christmas and sometimes in between! They are YUMMY!!!
Sift together and set aside:
3 cups all-purpose flour
1/2 tsp salt
1/2 tsp baking soda
1/2 tsp baking powder
Mix together:
1 cup softened butter (2 sticks)
1 cup granulated sugar
2 eggs
1 tsp vanilla extract
Add flour mixture. Chill until firm (3 hours or overnight.)
Roll out dough (I use some flour, some powdered sugar), cut out, bake at 350 for about 8 minutes. Cool.
AND... the Frosting!!! This is really good.
Beat together:
1/4 cup shortening
1/2 cup butter
Add in and beat well:
5 Tbsp milk (or heavy cream :) )
1 tsp vanilla extract
5 cups powdered sugar
Food coloring if desired, sprinkles, etc.
Have fun!
