I really like how helpful the members of this forum try to be to each other. This is a community I'd really like to be a part of.

Unfortunately, I feel like the forum software is getting in the way. There isn't any way, short of going into each and every forum, to quickly see what threads have new posts since your last visit, there seems to be no way in the world to remain logged, and worst of all, random logouts after logging in have lost several posts I've put a lot of thought into writing and effort into getting just right for people whose emotions are running really high.

Looking at my list of postings, you may notice how many long, and insightful comments I haven't made on really emotional topics. The forum software has eaten nearly all of the ones I've spent real time on.
-

Am I doing something wrong, or has it always been this way here?

Be careful what you wish for.

No, it's not you. The same thing has happened to me, too. The same problem exists on another forum I post on.

Usually, if I have a post that's more than a paragraph (and this other forum is very discussion oriented, so posts tend to be very long), I open a word file, type it into the word file and then copy and paste it.

I've lost posts before as well. Try going back a page. What you wrote should still be in your cache. I usually is for me.

I also agree with the 'new post' button. :)

I've tried going back, but there has yet to be anything in the cache.

:( Sorry that didn't work for you. :(

It's always worth a shot.

I've been back three times since my last post, and I've had to log in again each time. The cookies on this site have a shorter attention span than a three year old who has eaten a pound of chocolate and washed it down with pure sugar.

Hi, everyone.

I just checked our settings, and the logout point for user inactivity is set to 24 hours.

Clearly, the system isn't doing what it's supposed to be doing! I'm going to ask our tech team to look into it...

:)

That's what I was thinking. I couldn't think of a way to say it that wouldn't sound excessively arrogant as a n00b here.
