Infant Diarrhea

My 3 month old son has had diarrhea for the past 4 1/2 days! I'd like to think that it's finally getting better, but it may be my wishful thinking. I called the dr.s office both Monday and Tuesday, and they said if he doesn't seem dehydrated, lethargic, or isn't drinking enough fluids then bring him in. Well, he is "normal" except for the diarrhea. He has no fever, is drinking fine, when he's awake he's active. So, I really don't know if there is anything to do, but I thought I'd ask if any of you have been through this or if you think I should be more concerned? I'm mostly worried about it because he's so young. If it is still the same in the morning I'll call the dr. again, but really, what can they do, I guess? My mom said she would be worried about his electrolyte count, but I've always been told that formula/breast milk is the best thing to give infants no matter what.

Most Dr. offices won't give anything to an infant until they have had diarrhea for 10 days or have been constipated for 5 days. Most times it doesn't last this long anyway. At 3 months he's probably not on solids yet, so bananas are out. You could try a bit of rice cereal the thicker consistency might help. Have you recently changed formulas? He may not be reacting to the change well if you have. If it doesn't clear up on it's own and he is acting fine then you may need a more sensitive formula. If he is B/F couldn't it possibly be something you ate?

Nope, haven't changed anything formula-wise. He still has it, unfortunately, and I called the dr. this morning and she said not to worry, just keep watching him. They figure it's something viral, which is what I was thinking, too. So, it's been 6 full days, and I'll just keep an eye on him over the weekend. I'm really starting to hate poopy diapers, though. This is a kid whose normal routine was to poop every other day and now it's almost every diaper!

Ugh, I'm going through this too! It's been 5 days already and he can't sleep because he is constantly pooping! He is sooo tired though and because he is soooo tired he is sick to his stomach and is throwing up. He isn't dehydrated though which is awesome. I think it is something viral too. I hate just waiting it out though! Man I wish there was a magical safe cure all for baby illnesses.
