View Full Version : Wont Dry Up...

I breastfed my daughter for a day short of thirteen months before she weened herself. It's been a little over seven months now since that day, and even though I'm not pumping or anything (never pumped breast milk to begin with) I'm still producing milk and even getting engorged breasts every once in awhile. Is this at all normal, and if not what should I do? How long did it take you to dry up after your baby weened themselves?

I've heard other women say the same thing. So it is probably normal. Consider crushed cabbage leaves when you are engorged. I have been told the leaves have an enzime in them that dries up the milk. When you are newly nursing you are warned to not leave the cabbage on the breasts for too long, so maybe to dry yourself up you'll want to leave them on for a "long time". I also know there are pills to help dry up milk (generally used if a baby suddenly is no longer nursing) but maybe that would be something for you. You should give your OB a call and leave your question. Most likely he/she will be able to give you a quick answer without charging you :-)
Best of luck -
