My DD doesn't do well in a public school. She is bright and loves to learn but has dyspraxia so she doesn't fit the mold to do classroom work. In the public school system she lost her love of learning and very quickly became a stressed, distraught, child that had no self esteem. This caused us to look for alternatives. We found philosophies that we like and that work really well for her (unschooling, natural learning, interest led, etc) but couldn't find a school that offers that. Even the montessori schools around here which say they are child centered and the child has the choice, limit the child's choice to what they want to do first between a list of things the school chooses they should be doing. Homeschooling would be our best option but DH and I work full-time. We've been doing homeschooling for 2 years now and it's been great except for trying to find dependable care for DD during the day.
All this has led us to decide to open our own school to give other parents in situations similar to ours a chance to keep their child's love of learning alive and have a safe dependable place for their kids during the day.

We are located in Antioch, CA. If you are interested or know anyone that is our website is...

Good for you! I wish you were in Texas. I have been wanting to start my own school for years now because I can't find the perfect fit. Good luck to you.
