My son was born on Christmas Eve of 2007. I have recovered well from the delievery...the doctor said that everything was back to normal. I got my first period on Febuary 12. But I'm still having some spotting of blood..it doesn't look or feel like a period. Just a couple spots maybe once or twice a day. Counting from the first day of my period to now has been 18 days...before pregnancy my period used to end within 8-12 days. Should I go for an exam? Suggestions?

My cycle was very screwy the first few after giving birth. Even now, 16 months later, it isn't nearly as predictable as it was before giving birth. My first period was only 6 days, but then I got another full cycle barely a week after the first one ended. My OB was very reassuring, the exam came back fine, but I'm glad I went in to have it checked. Don't we have enough to worry about with a new baby? My cycle is still every 2-3 weeks, and I have cramping which I never had before. The joy of giving birth, a gift that just keeps on giving!

I would say go see your dr if you are at all worried. At the very least, you'll feel reassured afterwards. And if there is something wrong, early intervention is always best.

Go see the doc if you are worried or some doc offices allow you to call and ask questions. I know that mine was really weird after I had my last son, though I was not sure if it was because I had my tubes tied or not. I only spotted for 3 weeks. Everytime I thought it was done it would come right back. My son is almost 5 months now and things are kinda getting better though I am still waiting for it to get back to some form of regularity. I was reassured though that it is normal. There is no need to worry, go ask your doc. After all isn't that what they get paid for?

Thank you both for your advice and for replying. I did call the doc and they said that everything is fine and what I'm going through is normal.
I was just a little nervous since this was my first pregnancy.

I was crazy when that happened to me! I had my first child last may. I very quickly decided I was not going to put up with that for long! I couldn't go back on the pill for medical reasons so I got an IUD (you know the ones that you see advertised on TV). Best thing I ever did! I haven't had a period in three months- They say it is perfectly healthy and i am perfectly delighted!

My cycle was really messed up after having my youngest son as well. It was really heavy but short compared to what it used to be. It could just be your body trying to readjust, but I would ask your GYN.
