Usually babies start making some funny sounds at the age of one month. Previous to that crying is all youíll hear. By the time your baby is one year old he should be calling you mama already. So the speech journey begins and your baby will be eager to learn new words. His vocabulary will be very limited and slowly expanding but little by little and with lots of patience youíll be able to help your baby in his discovering experience. Donít worry if your baby takes a little longer than normal kids to learn his vocabulary. If you speak more than two languages at home this might be the reason why. It could be also that the childís environment is not favorable emotionally. The most important thing is that you learn how to understand your babyís feelings and how he/she communicates them. If he is feeling sick and has a fever* he might not even say the word because his vocabulary is not that extensive but at least he can make a sound or say something you have previously taught him.
