There are no letters to the editor in your magazine, so I am forced to voice my anger and disappointment here.

My wife and I have never gone through your magazine page by page until just yesterday.

Unfortunately I cannot say the same of my daughter, who has gone through it each time we get one.

My outrage is caused by the trust I had in your magazine that it was safe for kids to read and would help with family cohesion.

That trust was betrayed when we turned from page 52 and 53 where I saw a smiling child's picture along with a Kraft Mac-n-cheese ad, to what would be page 54 to see a picture of a nearly naked woman wearing a clear saran wrap and pictures of bubbles over her breasts and crotch.

HOW IN THE H#*$ DOES THIS BELONG IN YOUR MAGAZINE?? (CAPS INTENTIONAL!) IS IT JUST BECAUSE THEY PAID??

Do you SERIOUSLY think we should show CHILDREN pictures like this to give them ROLE MODELS???

What were you thinking?

I know what I am. I'm canceling the subscription, telling all parents of young children what your magazine is pushing, and any mags that come before the cancellation is completed are going directly into the trash.

Here is a scan of the advertisement.

You tell me if you want your kids to be looking at this.

Oh yeah. I paused at this also. Definitely got my attention. I certainly understand your concern and see its awkwardness in a parenting magazine.

There is something you can do. You may voice your opinion on this months issue by emailing your thoughts to motherhood@parenting.com.

I was wondering if someone was going to post about this.

You obviously don't read the magazine because there most certainly are letters to the editor.

It is called PARENTS magazine not CHILDRENS magazine.

Althought I do understand your offense, I do not share it. I am not at all offended by art that includes the human body. I'm sorry if you are raising your child to be afraid of this. You most Absolutely should cancel your subcription.

For those of us who don't have access to the magazine, perhaps someone could give us the context in which the picture appears.

For reference, this picture was on the cover of Rolling Stone magazine in May of 2009.

The oposit page had an ad about magazines. I'm guessing parenting's distributor or parent company owns the ad.

Oh, btw, I love Lady GaGa and so does my 2 and a half year old!

I thought my two-year-old was the only one! Every time we get in the car he asks for Paparazzi (the Lady Gaga song). It's his favorite song. :)

Charlie's favorite is Bad Romance. ;)

Hm. My son isn't a parent, so he wouldn't be reading Parenting magazine. So I guess this wouldn't be a problem for me. *shrug*
But if your daughter IS a parent who needs to be reading a parenting magazine, then I'm sure she's seen worse than that picture. ;)

Out of curiosity, since I'm a father and not a mother, should I email fatherhood@parenting.com with my questions and concerns?

HAHAHAHA!! I'd love to see an answer to that, but somehow I doubt you'll get one.

LOL!!! I thought the same thing ewoods!! And Heather is right! Don't expect an answer to that question.

This is so funny!

Why in the world would you think this magazine is for children!?

Ha! Yea, and why would you subscribe to a magazine that you don't read.

They might not have subscribed. I sure didn't, I'd never pay for this magazine.
I got a year free from Motherhood Maternity when I was pregnant with the first baby.
Maybe they have some deal like that. I rarely ever read it when I was getting it, either.

They also give away free subscriptions when you buy certain toys.

When I was pregnant, my daughter would jump and kick whenever Poker Face came on the radio, and she kept it up after she was born!

There must be some subliminal message for kids in her music. I was discussing this with a friend and he said that his son LOVES Lady Gaga!

That thought has crossed my mind, too - there are an awful lot of babies and toddlers who like her music. Also the cell phone commercials - wherever my daughter is in the house, if an AT&T commercial comes on, she stops what she is doing and stares into space. Then when it is over, she kind of shakes her head and goes back to what she was doing. Weird!

ewoods, if you are a parent, then I believe your questions will be responded to.

Kay I think he was asking where to direct his questions. Does he also use motherhood@parenting.com? Or is there another one for fathers

Exactly. I appreciate the response Kay, but what I meant was that the address motherhood@parenting.com implies that it's for mothers only. As a father, it's a little off-putting. Would it be terrible if the address was just parenthood@parenting.com?

ewoods, are you trying to imply that fathers are parents too?! That's just absurd!

(please note that I am being very sarcastic because I'm 100% on your side here)

How dare I do such a thing! :)

Thanks for the support Heather. I'd never really get mad at a little thing like an email address anyway. You have to pick your battles, right? Like making sure Lady Gaga never appears in Parenting magazine again!

Hi all,

We are trying to get a more gender-neutral e-mail for letters to the editor, as we would love to get more letters from dads. Keep in mind, however, that the mag publishes a few months ahead, so you won't see a change right away.

Until then, please use motherhood@parenting.com, moms AND dads :)

Wow, thanks Sasha! It's great (and a little surprising) to see the magazine taking a greater interest in becoming gender-neutral. Are these changes going to be acknowledged somewhere in the magazine?
