Hi all - first time poster, but have read the threads for MONTHS! And I have a question for MOMMIES IN THE KNOW :)
OK, I am soooo excited, hubby and I have decided to start trying at the end of the year (December-ish). I've read many an article on getting pregnant, etc., so what do I need to do to prep? I know I need to go on pre-natal vitamins (I already have a prescription)...is there anything else? I quit smoking more than 7 months ago and stopped BC pills 2 months ago...
I would appreciate any and all suggestions and advice - my mom got pregnant with me and my 2 brothers without charts and pre-natal vitamins - I look forward to speaking with you all throughout this journey!!!

Best advice - RELAX. :) Don't expect results right away, and just remember to have fun in practicing until you're preggers. :)
Our dr. advised us to have sex every other day if that was something we could do without feeling as though we were only doing it to get pregnant. We had no issues with that so that's what we did. We had a blast with it, changing scenery and just enjoying each other, forgetting it was to conceive. You've stopped smoking, stopped birth control, and already know to start vitamins - you're golden!
I would advise to be in good physical shape before getting pregnant, and continue exercising throughout the pregnancy as long as the dr okays it. My OB told me "Would you run a marathon without getting in shape first? This is harder than a marathon." It was great advice!!
Good luck and we look forward to hearing your good news very soon!!

I'm glad to hear that you're excited about trying. I'm pregnant with my first baby (due Jan 6). Some people have no trouble getting pregnant right away after stopping the BC. It took us a little more than a year. We didn't actually count the days and everything until the last four months and then finally got pregnant in April.
I'm so glad to see that you are preparing for it and not expecting to just get pregnant right away. It's a huge source of disappointment when you're hoping to get pregnant and aren't having any luck. The way you're approaching it is setting yourself up for nothing but happiness!!
Congratulations on the decision to expand your family, and good luck in December.

I am so very excited! And I know that conception takes time...though my hubby seems to think that he'll, like, sneeze on me and I'll get pregnant :)
I have been on weight watchers for almost 4 months (right after the post-smoking 10+ lb gain), I have already lost more than 25 lbs, and I am suprisingly finding myself ENJOYING exercise! We are relatively young (I'm 28, he's 30), so I am pretty sure my doc will be cool with me continuing to exercise during pregnancy.
Do I start the vitamins now? Or should I wait a bit? I guess they can't hurt right?

It wouldn't hurt to start them before conception. I'm not sure how early is okay, though.

My Doctor has me taking them now. There are vitamins in the prenatals that you need at the time of conception like folic acid. I've been taking them since May with the intention of getting pregnant in the fall. Hope that helps!

Thanks all! I have read that a lot of doctors suggest starting prenatal vitamins 2-3 months before one starts TTC. However, as I have struggled with adult-onset acne for about a year, my dermatologist has me on a vitamin/mineral hybrid in addition to a topical wash and cream; I've seen GREAT results! There is some folic acid in the vitamins, but less than the suggested amount for a pre-natal. I'm afraid to take my pre-natals in conjunction with the other meds, as there may be too MUCH vitamins?
I guess I should talk to my doctor? Because I'd like to start the pre-natals in the middle/end of next month...anyone take pre-natals with other meds???
