Hello all,
Was interested if anyone know the laws for maturnity leave. as far as how much time a company has to give with pay, but not using vacation leave. Wife is worried about having to us up all her personal leave after baby ( if all goes well) and not having any the next school year if she needs time off with other kids for any reason...

Thanks

It really depends on the company, but by law (in Arizona, anyway) I believe it's up to 12 weeks with doctor approval. She would have to check with the Human Resources department or her manager as far as what they're spacific maternity leave program is.

From what I know, she will NOT have to use her vacation or time off for pregnancy. That is what maternity leave is for, so don't worry about that.

Here is some info about the Family Medical Leave Act, which covers maternity leave: http://pregnancy.lovetoknow.com/wiki/Maternity_Leave_Laws Unfortunately, whether or not she would get paid is up to her employer. Good news is that she should still have her vacation and personal time to use (unless you choose to use it to get paid during maternity leave). Also, check with your state's Department of Labor to get laws specific to your state. She should get become familiar with her company's policies, too.
