View Full Version : maternity clothes
It's a little early to think about maternity clothes, but I want to have something to wear (besides my yoga pants) when I need it before I have to go on an emergency shopping spree because nothing fits. Is anyone else thinking about this yet? This is my first pregnancy, so I've never had to shop for maternity clothes before.
Does anyone have tips to getting cute clothes that aren't too expensive? We have have early fall then winter to deal with, so I'm thinking stuff that can be layered. Has anyone heard of the belly band? Is it tacky to ask friends who've had babies within the last year or so to lend some clothes? Has anyone shopped or "window" shopped for clothes yet?
I just went to Belly Basics website. Personally I'm not willing to spend $40 - $90 for individual pieces.

Yes girl! I know how you feel. Definitely go to Motherhood.com to order or find a location near you. They always have great sales and you can find super cute jeans that don't even look like maternity for about $20...sometimes less. That store was my savior. They have a great selection. Also check out Old Navy. I know they have on-line, but I'm not sure about in store. There are so many options for us pregos to look cute now days.
Good luck!
I went to oldnavy.com and they do have good choices for good prices. I'll check out motherhood.com. Thanks!

I am small framed. I bought 2 pairs of maternity jeans from Motherhood, 1 pair of maternity shorts and (1) pair of black dress slacks. I then bought some really cute maternity tops on clearance at Walmart and Kohls (They are changing to fall/winter wardrobe so now is a good time to pick up a few summer items for cheap). I then bought a few large shirts from the juniors section.
As for winter maternity clothes, chances are you will be HOT. I wouldnt worry to much about buying sweaters and stuff. If you get 1 or 2, you will be fine. Im due on 1/22/09, so I should be able to wear my husbands sweatshirts until my clothes fit again. By then, spring will be on us, and we will be back in our original clothes.

Glad I could help.
I went to a thrift store today and scored some maternity jeans that are just my size from Motherhood for $2! They're not the most stylish (a little "mom" jean-ish, and a lighter wash), but who cares! They'll make a great casual jean. I can even start wearing them now, though they make me look like I'm showing more than I am. I'm so excited to have my first maternity wear.

Yay! I'm so happy for you. That reminds me...Target donates brand new cloths (a lot of maternity) at the local Good Will's here in Vegas and every other Sat. they have 1/2 off. If you want I would say go check out your local Good Will and see if they offer something similar.

I'll be in Vegas in a few weeks. Maybe I'll look for a Good Will store while I'm there! heehee! I guess I could try a local one first.

Yay! I hope you have fun while you're here in Vegas. I would definitely check your local Good Will first. I hope if you do get to one while you're out here you find some cute stuff. =)

i totally agree with going to motherhood. I have found that they always have sales going on and most of their stuff is definitely cute. The last two times i've been there, i've been able to get shirts for under $10. They also have great work pants and skirts for a great price. If for whatever reason you're ever in Charlotte, NC, definitely check out CONCORD MILLS MALL...the motherhood store there is huge!
I've found a couple of items on the clearance rack at Target as well...
and if you think about it, a lot of the styles today that aren't maternity clothes actually would fit someone who IS preggo :)
in the last week i've got a couple of items from banana republic that i will be able to wear after the baby as well :)
It's been super fun for me looking around for cute maternity clothes as this is my first child as well ;)
