You don't sound like a bad mother!! The fact that your daughter has been breastfed for the first 5 mos. has given her so many benefits. I think every mom is different and if you feel it's time to stop breastfeeding, go with what you feel is best! I didn't have problems transferring from breastfeeding to a bottle but I had a family member who did. She started by buying a few different types of bottles with different nipples to see which one her daughter liked. Also, in the beginning, she didn't try to give her daughter the bottles during her actual feeding times (baby got frustrated because she was hungry and didn't want to bother with something new). What the mom did was breastfeed her during mealtime, then about 1 - 2 hours later, try to give the baby a bottle (only a couple of times a day). She only put an ounce of breastmilk in the bottle - the goal was to get the baby used to the bottle itself. Once her daughter was comfortable with the bottle, my sister-in-law would slowly replace the actual meals with the bottle. She had to continue pumping breastmilk and over time, decreased the amount of breastmilk while increasing the amount of formula in the bottle. Also, she had other people feed her daughter so the baby would become comfortable with others. It was a slow process, but eventually the baby came around. You might want to try different bottles and if possible, pump your breastmilk and give it in the bottle - if you're using formula in your bottles, it's possible that your daughter if fighting the formula itself and not necessarily the bottle. I hope this gives you a few ideas - good luck!
