I have only recently aged enough to have proper perspective on teenagers (23 now), and it doesn't matter how smart you are. They're going to be smart asses, and your only ammo is sarcasm. This is actually how most teens respect authority figures -- the ones (teachers, parents, mostly) that have a sharp wit earn respect and with that a little more cooperation.
