You can start with lotions any time. From the beginning, I lotioned my daughter after her bath. I've never used powder. Don't be afraid to call your pediatrician's office. You don't have to make an appointment...usually you can just ask to speak to a nurse. Good luck to you!

I'm 28yrs old and I use lotions, so I know that's safe :)....but seriously, I'm a father to be and I'm wondering the same thing. Did you make that call?

I also started using lotions right after my son was born! The only thing i can suggest is to look on the labels for an indicator that it's safe on newborns.Ex..Johnson's original(pink bottle)is ok but the bedtime stuff isn't safe until after 3 months.I also found this stuff it's called "Burt's bee" it's made from all natural stuff and is safe on newborns(I live in Canada so it may not be available).I hope this helps:)

I love Burt's Bees lotion called Baby Bee.It’s the only lotion that I have found that I am not allergic to. I don’t have a baby to try it on just yet but when I do you can bet it’s the only lotion I will use.

If anything just call the baby's doctor and ask them for their professional opinion. I used lotion on my twins the first time after i took them a bath. But i never used powder on them. The doctor said she would recommend me not to use it, especially around their penis. So, I've never used it. They are 3 years old now! Not to mention, quite a handful!! lol

We didn't use lotions because many contain some form of alcohol which dry the skin. We used the baby oil (now in a cool gel form!) But be careful of your wardrobe, baby oil is hard to get out of fabrics.

Ok, maybe I'm weird... We don't use anything. Nothing after the bath, and after wiping them off for their diaper change, nothing there either aside from an air-dry.
They've only had one rash each since they were born (about 7months old now), and those were when we DID use powder/lotion.)

I'm glad it worked out for you. My twins are 3 now and I still use lotion on them... I just love the way it smells. They didn't get any rashes from it. But I never used the powder. So you really don't use ANYTHING on them?
