Hello, new here.
My baby girl is going to be a week old tomorrow (Friday). We had a rough start to BF and by Tuesday she had gone from a 7lb 10oz birth weight to 7lbs even. I felt that she wasn't eating enough as she wouldn't latch for me, if she did she'd only eat a few minutes and she was really fussy. She was peeing and pooping but I was convinced she wasn't getting enough and it had me nearly in a panic.
We contacted the lactation consultant that I'd seen in the hospital (I had a c-section) and went in on the Tuesday mentioned above.
She worked with us for quite some time, introduced a nipple shield and it made a huge difference.
In the days since she's definitely increased her feedings and I've even managed to get her to feed successfully without the shield at times (I've read they can shrink milk production due to decreased stimulation of the nipple) but I'm still worried.
Everything and everyone says that babies NEED to eat 8-12 times a day for at least 10 minutes preferably on each breast.
She does not. She is a one breast at a time girl though I've managed to get her on both a few times. She will happily sleep hours without eating though I do have my husband set the alarm and we do try every three to 3.5 hours. She's a pain to wake up and feed, but when she's awake she's very alert and active. No signs of jaundice. I do have another lactation consultation this Tuesday which I'm looking forward to but I cannot stop worrying that she's still not getting enough.
From 6 a.m. this morning she's had 6 diapers, 4 with obvious pee and 2 I couldn't quite tell if it was just poo or also pee.
Sorry for the novel but this is my first baby and I'm sadly a paranoid person by nature. My husband is telling me she's fine but I'm still worried.
