Is there any way besides an ultrasound to tell if you are carrying twins? Twins run in both my family and my bfs. This is my second preg. and with my daughter I hardley showed ( I'm appx 9 wks. now) until the second trimester. With this preg. I am huge!!!! What I am wondering is it normal to be this much bigger with a second preg of a single child, or not? Because I am much bigger with this preg - does that mean that I could be carrying twins?

You may not necessarily be carrying twins. Your body is more stretched out with your second pregnancy than with the first. So you will begin to show much sooner. With my youngest, I was as big at 5 months as I was at 9 months with my first. I HAD to wear maternity clothes by 2 months with my youngest as well. So just being bigger this time around isn't a good indication of twins. BTW my first pregnancy was with twins. You will usually find out it's twins during an ultrasound, but sometimes your OB will hear two heartbeats. Talk with your OB about your concerns at your next appointment, they can help determine whether you should go for an early ultrasound or not.

I'm carrying twins and didn't start showing at all until the beginning of the second trimester. I think stretching from past pregnancies and your body type have more influence on your size early in pregnancy than the number of fetuses. They're incredibly tiny at 9 weeks. You might also wonder about twins if you had very high hormone levels (you probably got an hCG blood test when you found out your were pregnant) but I guess that's not an automatic indication either.

I didn't really show at all with my first pregnancy. I am pregnant with my second and I am already showing and I'm not due until June. I've heard from a lot of women that you show more with the second. Unfortunately, to my knowledge, anyways...there is no way other than an ultrasound/heartbeat moniter to know if you are carrying twins.

No. Those are the only two ways to know for sure. Although even the heartbeat thing can be inaccurate.
Usually, women have exaggerated morning sickness. (I did- but turns out I just get hyperemesis with each pregnancy)
