I was wondering if anyone has had any problems with feedinig their babies... My daughter is 5 weeks old and she's been on parents choice infant formula (wal-mart brand) and so far she only poops maybe once every two days. I have done some of my own research and i know she has colic really bad... My mother whom was raised on Karo syrup and evaporated milk has decided to try to use that remedy to help her. So for the past two days that is what she has been drinking. My problem now is i am not entierly sure it is safe for her because of botulism. I guess i am looking for a little reassurance. I would try other baby formulas but we cannot afford them. basically it comes down to her pooping habbits, in typical babies between the ages of 0-6 months what is normal? how many or how offten should i be looking for her to poop? Mind you yes i am a first time mother, and i'm just worried i want my baby to be happy, i can't stad to hear her crying like this it rips my heart out. but i have noticed since i started doing what my mother says, she hasn't been crying near as much. If anyone has any help or advise they can offer pleaase let me know

Your mother sounds like shes on the right track. i wouldnt worry about botulism-especially if its a new bottle that has been stored in a dry cool place. You could always take some yourself first to start a new bottle if your that worried. Ive used it and i know many people who have also with no botulism. Anways, seems like its definitely the formula. I know BJ's sells formula, target might also. And depending on where you live WIC can provide you with formula if you qualify. Changing the formula is the only thing that will solve it completely. And newborns should poop at least a couple times a day-thats why shes so fussy shes backed up and uncomfortable. I hope you find something that works-pls keep me posted!

well earlier today my mom gave her a sapository. a quarter part of one for children. and of course she pooped, then about 2 hours later she pooped again (on her own). so i hope it's working. i know she said my brother was raised on it and all he problems with was gas. the thing is now she's having problems sleeping, every 15 to 20 minutes shes waking up and seems like shes in more pain. but the minute i pick her up and rock for about 5 minutes she falls right back to sleep. i'm wondering if the milk could be souring or what....

Well ive heard many moms talk about their babies being sensitive to milk in general-even when they breastfeed-what the mom drinks actually affects the baby. My son is sensitive to milk protein and possibly lactose (not intolerant though). Milk proteins are hard to digest and formula is made from cows milk, even though its made to be gentler it can still cause problems in my opinion. My son had a lot of gas, spit up all the time, and wouldnt sleep at night. So I changed to lactose free and he doesnt have that problem anymore. I use similac sensitive, but enfamil makes one as well, that i know of. You can go online and sign up at their websites to receive coupons. Again, WIC also provides whatever brand they have a contract with in your area. Id also like to mention that my son did okay on rice cereal until he started eating a couple tablespoons. I had to switch to barley because it can be constipating. Just for future reference, but its good to start with rice first.
