If it's a girl, she's Elise Marie. BUT just in case it's a boy...
what does everybody think of
Silas?
Silas James, (James is my granddad)... I like the name - old names - ("Si" for short!) but part of me thinks it's kind of weird? And I ran it by the lady at the dentist's office and she'd never even heard it before!
What're your gut reactions?

I like it. I have heard it before too! lol. Si for short is sooo cute. It is different, but that isn't a bad thing. :) I think it goes really well with the middle name as well. I love James as a middle name. It is my uncle's name, my grandpa's middle name and my dads middle name!

Honest feedback? Silas is a GREAT name! :D Strong, unique and stylish. It's a somewhat old-fashioned, unique name. You won't ever have to worry about calling your son on the playground and having half a dozen respond. James is a fabulous middle name - also a family name in my case: my grandfather, uncle and cousin's first name, as well as another cousin and my brother's middle name.

Thanks gals... I know whatever name we pick will just become his name... I just wasn't sure since that lady had never HEARD it! I know it's not common but...
And then, when I secretly polled a few co-workers a while back, a Black lady I worked with said it sounded like "an old Black man's name!" Uh... well, she doesn't work there anymore so at least I won't get that from her.. (j/k I just loved her but that threw me for a loop!) So gut reactions or whatever is something to keep in mind!

I like it because it is the name of the son on weeds.

i think many people would know the name from the book "Silas Marner" by George Eliot. it's often read in high school and college lit classes.

I don't think I've heard that before, but I really like it! It is different, but in a way that's a good thing because I highly doubt there will be more than one "Silas" in his class. It's unique, a little unusual, but not unpleasant. I give it a thumbs up!

Elise and Silas are kinda close. If you use had a boy and used Silas it might put Elise out of the running if you had a girl later.

WELL... update, baby arrived 3/5/10, it's a BOY, and we did name him Silas James! I've been surprised that some people have never even heard the name at all, but still think it's cute (well, they say anyway!) And have had a lot of people say they just love it... AND I am loving it on him... guess that's all that really matters! And it's funny, pretty quickly the name just settles on them and becomes something you don't think about so much...
Thanks for the feedback, and we're loving our li'l "Si Guy!"

I like Silas but I hate "Si". Just call him Silas it is only 2 syllables.
