About a week ago I had the Mirena put it. I am 33 and have 4 kids,my youngest is 11 months old. We decided to have it put in because my fiance or I cant afford any more kids right now. So far so good,I have had a little spotting and pain which is to be expcted. But what I am wondering most is how many women have choose this type of birth control? I have done the pill and depo and depo was great except for having to go do it every 4 months and the weight gain. And for the pill,it always gave me headaches. So if anyone has had this longer than 6 months please let me know how you feel about it. Thank you.

I had Mirena from Oct. '07 to Apr. '09, so about 18 months. I had absolutely no problems with it at all. I had no periods while on it and I was able to get pregnant 3 months after having it removed. The first period I had after having it removed was very very heavy, but other than that, no problems. After I have this baby (due Apr. '10) I'll have another Mirena put in. Good luck with yours!

I had the non-hormonal IUD and I loved it for about the first 6 months, but then I started spotting once a week, then once a day, then I had full on period type bleeding every day for almost 4 weeks before I was able to have it removed. I learned that it was trying to embed itself in the side of my uterus. After that I talked to other people and found 2 of my cousins had the same problem and one had to have it surgically removed. Plus I heard other horror stories. I know few people that had it for longer than a year without complications. Hopefully things work better for you!

I've had the Mirena for 3 years now. My sis-in-law recommended it, saying, "you'll hate it for the first month and love it for the next five years." I did have some cramping at first, but now it's wonderful. No problems and almost no periods (a little bit of light spotting to let me know I'm having it).
I'll be getting another one when this runs out.

Mirena was wonderful! Just had it taken out; about 9 months earlier than I needed to, but we're trying for a baby now. The Mirena was absolutely no hassle, worry free. I'd recommend it to anyone who wants long-term birth control.

I've had the Mirena since early April 2009. I hated it for about the first 4 months because I spotted (heavy spotting) every day. I decided to wait at least 6 months to see if it got any better and thankfully it did. After 4 months I started having normal periods again. I no longer have menstral camps (pre Mirena they were horrible). The only downside now is that although my periods are lighter than they used to be, they last 3-4 days longer, oh well its a small price to pay to not have to worry about birth control anymore.

Mirena has been great! I've had it for almost 2 years with absolutely zero problems. Like the others, I had cramps and spotting in the beginning but after 6 months I was back to normal. I still have a monthly period but it is very light. I am happy with the choice I made; I would not rely on any other form of birth control.

I have had the Mirena since Dec 2008 and am loving it! My son is 14 mos and we are not planing on trying for another until he is atleast 2. For the first few months my periods were very strange. I would either bleed for only a day, or would bleed every other day for about 1 1/2 weeks but they eventually settled down. I would highly reccomend it to everyone that just had a baby and isnt ready for another yet

I use to have a mirena also. I have tried the pill, the patch, nuva ring, and depo shots. Nothing compares to the mirena. I had mine in for a little over 2 years. I would recommend it to anyone. The first month was a little rough i guess, but well worth it. my periods seemed to be getting lighter the longer i had it in. We decided to have another baby, i had the Mirena removed and got pregnant within 2 months! If i wasn't having my tubes tied after this child, i would DEF get the mirena again

I had it for like 6 months and I HATED it. I had it taken out and then had the Nuva Ring in. It was much better, in my opinion. I just had too many side effects.
Weight loss (I was too thin anyways...)
Headaches
CRAZY mood swings
Depression
I just couldn't take it. My doctor wanted me to keep it in for a year, but I wouldn't do it. I was tired of not feeling like myself.
