Hi, I'm new to this site. We have been trying since Jan.2009 and no luck. I just turned 39 a few weeks ago. I have a couple of questions and hoping someone can guide me in the right direction.
My 1st pregnancy ended in miscarriage at almost 12 weeks (we got pregnant on the 2nd try). My 2nd pregnancy resulted in a daughter (who will be 9 in Oct.) (conceived 1st try). My 3rd pregnancy resulted in not even trying (actually it was the only time we were together in mths, we were having problems) and that was 5yrs ago. Went in for a sonogram and to date the pregnancy, it was early.. They said they couldn't find a heartbeat, which I terminated the pregnancy. Now some background on that..... I couldn't get any info from them what that means....was it too early for heartbeat or not a viable pregnancy, etc. other than "a nurse will call you". I called the office twice after that to speak w/nurse, only to have them tell me they'll put the message though. My miscarrage was VERY traumatic, extreme abdomidal pain for 2 days, no bleeding, only to be rushed into emergeny surgery. Now, my pregnacies, I have extreme morning sickness...24/7 till the middle/end of the 2nd trimester. The 3rd pregnancy was not a good time in my life, and factoring the miscarriage and morning sickness, and not getting any answers from dr. office. I made the rash decision and opted to terminate the pregnancy b/f I miscarried and have a repeat of b/f. Now that we are trying again, I went scheduled an appt. b/c we had been trying for 7mths. only to be told that it was a viable pregnancy and there was a heartbeat. Which of course left me very upset, b/c they told me there wasn't one. Now I had guilt b/f only made it worse.
Now here are the questions. My husband is self-employed and I'm a stay at home mom and my ins. won't pay for anything that concerns infertility or trying to conceive. They did run a bunch of blood work under the issues of beening tired and weight gain)which are true) and there is thyroid issues in my family. So they were able to check my hormone levels and a bunch of other stuff. The thyroid did come back not in the normal range and I do have an appt. with a specialist for the end of Sept. Money is tight and we can't pay for any fertility treatments, which I hear is quite expensive. So I was trying to find ins that we will pay for ourselves that covers infertilty. Does anyone know of any? I tried online only to get that ins is not available in your state or it doesn't cover fertility or infertility.
I feel like I'm running this race against age 40 and loosing. And it will be a lost cause wehn I reach 40 w/o having to undergo lots of infertility treatments, which we just can't afford to do. Now maybe, I'm just too stressed and that's why it isn't easy this time around but we've tried for mths now next week will be our 9th mth trying. Or maybe the thyroid is a issue causing to have trouble this time around. If it is, I still don't know where to go from there.
My husband is just not feeling that concerned, he's pretty laid back and we have a daughter what's the big deal type of feeling he has. So he's having a hard time understanding why I'm upset and concerned. This isn't something I can talk about to my very little family, we don't have a close relationship like that. And my couple of friends are either done having children, they can't relate. And my other friend just told me today that she's 9 weeks along, so she can't relate. Hoping someone out there that can relate to me and have some words of wisdom and advise.

thanks for listening!
Lisa

I am so sorry to hear about the trouble that you are going thru. My husband I have been ttc for 1 1/2 years. He was my first everything (i mean everything) and we got married when I was 18. We saved up lots of money and paid off all debts (cars, credit card, hubby's personal loan) and then bought our own house. We both have wonderful jobs so we decided to start ttc.

I started taking prenatal vitamins 3 months before i stopped taking the pill. I figured that we would be super fertile since we were so young... Here we are, a year and a half later, coughing up all this money for infertility testing. I've had very irregular periods (every 40-70 days) so we were unable to time everything just right.

I made an appt with my OBGYN and she said it sounded like I wasn't ovulating. She took some blood on cd 03 and my FSH was low. Yesterday I went in and had a painful HSG done to check for a blockage in my tubes. Eveything was fine. Now today hubby gets to give a "sample". I have one last blood test on cd 21 and if everything goes ok then she will start me on Clomid.

We have Care First Blue Cross Blue Shield but it does not cover anything for infertility. Some things you can have your OB write off for irregular periods or to check for thyroids or something. We have had to pay for all of our testing without insurance help because all of our tests have been strictly for infertility.

Consultation: $75
CD03 blood work (4 tests): $453
HSG: $1,038

Not sure what our other tests will cost... I'm waiting on the bill. :(

It is a very expensive process, something we did not plan for. I wish you much luck. Baby dust to you!!!!

First, I wanted to say I am so sorry for the hardship you are going through. I cannot relate to all of it, but I can relate to some and I wanted to share my personal story of pregnancy success as my DH and I are ecstatic and we believe completely that a product called Instead Softcup is responsible for our success. Back in 2004, DH and I had been spoiled when we conceived on the first try (read: Honeymoon) with our now 3 year old DD. When we started trying for #2 last August (07), I think we subconsciously thought - "oh this will be easy." Well, fast forward nearly 6 months and no positive pregnancy test. We are talking ovulation monitoring, EVERYTHING. Granted, I am now 35 and obviously our lives are a bit more stressful with work, having a toddler, etc. But still, it was becoming frustrating, especially feeling that we were doing everything we could do to "time" things right. Also, we knew in our heads that 5 months wasn't THAT long a time to try, but as I mentioned, we were eager, and our past experience made us impatient. We were truly becoming burnt out when a friend of mine mentioned that she was working with a company who had a product that had been getting a reputation on blogs and fertility message boards for helping women to conceive. Of course, having serious baby on the brain and desperate to try anything, I went home and Googled it and low and behold, many, many stories on other blogs from women who had had success conceiving with the help of the Instead Softcup.

My friend gave me some samples so we thought, what do we have to lose? The next ovulation period, immediately after BD-ing, (meaning I had it on the nightstand ready and inserted it right away), we used Softcup. We used it twice that month and two weeks later, got the wonderful POSITIVE pregnancy test we have been waiting for! Again, I just wanted to share our success in the hopes that it can help other couples struggling to get that positive test themselves. I was lucky to have a friend turn me on to Softcups, but I have found out that they can be purchased at many drug stores, Wal Mart, and online at www.softcup.com, but I just heard that Target may not be carrying them anymore which is VERY disappointing as I know that they would be of value to SO many women- anyways, they are in the feminine products section, because their intended use is an alternative to tampons (which by the way they are great for too!). Don't be deterred by what they look like (literally like a bendable soft cup), as they are easy to use, VERY comfortable and most importantly SAFE (I have researched and gotten inside info from my friend who has insider knowledge because of the work arrangement). Good luck and happy pregnancy vibes!

I have a question for you all...

Has anyone had a husband that was told he had only a 35% chance of having a kid... and ended up having a kid... i had a baby before i met him, but back when he was in high school he had a wrestling accident, where the dr when he was 17 told him he only had a 35% chance of having a kid... that is what he told me. right now he is overseas and we havnt started trying... but i just wanted to know if anyone has a hubby that was told they had a low chance of having a kid and ended up having one (with or with out help from drs).
im just wondering if maybe back in the day he was told that or didnt understand so i would like him when he get home from his tour of duty overseas to get check out before we start trying so we know what are chances will be when we start trying.
so if anyone has any advice or has had a similar problem please message me! thank you so much!

DEAR ALL MOMS:
I AM SORRY THAT YOU HAVE TO GO THROUGH THIS, AS HAVING A CHILD IS PRETTY MUCH SOMETHING WE DO..
BUT, I WANTED TO TELL ALL OF YOU SOMETHING THAT I HOPE FINDS YOU IN AN OPEN MIND...
I have heard nothing but the best of luck when it comes to getting regular chiropractic adjustments from a great Chiropractor! I know of a few families in my own community that had issues with this topic and started chiropractic care to find that they got pregnant! I am a Chiropractic Assistant and can help you with any questions on how this works.
Because it DOES work!

I am not out here looking for patients; so I will not be telling anyone where I am from or what office I work out of, etc..

Chiropractic will take pressure off the spine to give the nerves in you back and in your body their life back so that everything in your body starts working the way it should. It takes the pressure of a DIME for a nerve to get crushed in between 2 vertebrea.
Just sayin'...

You can email me with questions/concerns:

Best of luck and may God bless you and your families. :)

I see plenty of opinions here which unfortunately show precisely how difficult it is to become pregnant. We have tried for more than 12 months with no success. We tried using the various methods as well as thinking about IVF but our gp was adamant we continue to adopt the 'correct' approach, through going on a diet and fanatically adhering to the ovulation calender. It had not been until I read the storyline associated to this publication ( http://www.ouropinionis.com/stories/our-pregnancy-story.php ) that we did start to better realise why I had not been having a baby. You regularly read that whenever you take a rest, forget about the situation (it is not so simple is it?!) that things start to develop. In our situation this was true and I put it all down to the knowledge I received because of reading this. It may possibly not work for everybody under the sun having said that following having a year of trying I realised I was willing to give nearly anything a go so we are delighted I did so.
