My son is getting tubes in his ears

I'm just curious if any moms out there has a child with tubes and what problems have you had with it.

I had tubes when I was little and don't remember much about actually getting them put in my ears, I just remember waking up after the surgery but I know that they helped me tremendously. I had horrible ear infections all the time before the tubes in the 20 years after I only have had 2-3. I could never feel them and they both fell out on their own, they didn't have to be removed. I just called my dad and he told me that the actual procedure was very simple and within half an hour to 45 minutes it was over and he and my mom were by my bed. There were never any kind of problems or complications. Hopefully this helps you a little and relieves any anxiety you have about your little one having to go through surgery.

My son got tubes about 9 months ago. He hasn't had a single ear infection since. The procedure isn't bad, and he was up and running around by the evening. The hardest part for him was seeing all the different machines and equipment at the hospital. One of us was with him the entire time except for the actual procedure.

I am a surgery nurse, I actually scrub in with the surgeon and assist and I have done multiple vent-tube placements, Which is what your son will have. They are very quick procedures, little pain and highly successful. I know when we bring little kids back we try to make them as comfortable as possible. In my hospital we tell them everything before we do it (while they are awake) such as "we are going to put a mask on so you can blow up a balloon" which in reallity is a gas mask "we are going to see how big your muscles are" which is actually the blood pressure cuff.. For children who are especially young and or scared we will try to cradle them and hold or hug them until they drift off to sleep....Hope that helps e-mail me if you have any other questions LuckeeMommy02@yahoo.com
